Unlike ordinary meetings where people casually gather, today’s session was filled with deep emotion. The document presented stirred tears and ignited passion. Ethiopia — this motherland — was described as a nation that has endured hardship, preserved her dignity, and reached her current standing through resilience.
Professor Nebiyu Baye, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Culture and Sports (Artistic Creation and Development Department), presented a national interest and geo-strategic document to the Ministry staff and employees of the National Theatre. He emphasized that the issue of sea access is not just political but a matter of survival and national dignity.
The presentation highlighted Ethiopia’s historic stature — from the Axumite Kingdom to the medieval era — as a country of strategic importance and global influence. It lamented the loss of sea access due to political missteps and external pressures, and called for unity, patriotism, and collective responsibility to restore Ethiopia’s rightful place.
The document urged citizens to rise above ethnic and tribal divisions, to focus on national interest, and to draw inspiration from the victory of Adwa as a symbol of resilience and unity. It reminded that Ethiopia once managed ports along the Red Sea, Zeila, and Berbera, and that regaining sea access is a historic responsibility.
The meeting was emotional, with tears shed as participants reflected on Ethiopia’s sacrifices and the need for renewed national commitment. The National Theatre and the artistic community were called upon to contribute through cultural works that inspire patriotism and unity.
The session concluded with a reaffirmation: Ethiopia, strengthened by the courage of her children, will endure and be honored forever.
