The Director General of the Ethiopian National Theatre, Mr. Bareke Tadesse, announced that work is underway to make artistic activities accessible across all parts of Ethiopia.
Under the guiding motto “The Ethiopian National Theatre as a National Artistic Platform”, he addressed candidates during the recruitment held in Arba Minch, Southern Ethiopia. He emphasized that the National Theatre is the home of all Ethiopians — a place where music, drama, dance, and other art forms converge, where people connect, and where Ethiopia’s culture is elevated globally.
He further explained that a major national project has been launched to make the theatre truly nationwide, with recruitment being conducted in every region and city administration. In the Southern region, where more than 32 ethnic groups live, he expressed joy at the enthusiasm shown.
The Director highlighted that these ethnic groups, with their unique colors, voices, resilience, and traditions, are Ethiopia’s strong pillars. After training, selected candidates will be recognized and will represent their communities at the National Theatre. They will serve as cultural diplomats and ambassadors, carrying the responsibility of showcasing Ethiopia’s heritage and identity to the world.
He added that the trainees will receive two months of training from experienced professionals in the arts. He also thanked the Southern Region’s Culture and Tourism Bureau for preparing favorable conditions and for the warm reception, on behalf of the National Theatre and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Artist Kaleb Walelign, who participated in the Arba Minch recruitment, shared a message with the candidates: Ethiopia’s children must dream of becoming shining jewels on the world stage. He noted that the ongoing nationwide recruitment is part of this vision.
He emphasized that Ethiopia’s cultural life is beloved, respected, and admired, carrying many messages for the world — unity, beauty, and harmony — and that art is the medium through which these values are expressed. He affirmed that the National Theatre’s mission is to deliver Ethiopia’s art to the world, and that the nationwide training program is part of this effort.
The recruitment is being conducted in collaboration with regional and city culture and tourism offices, who serve as facilitators for candidate selection.
