National Theatre Showcases Historic Photo and Costume Exhibition at the 17th Arts Festival

The 17th New Arts Festival was officially opened today at Meskel Square under the theme “The Gift of Art for Ethiopia’s Elevation.” Organized by the Addis Ababa City Administration Culture and Arts Bureau, the grand opening ceremony was attended by senior government officials, religious leaders, Abba Gadas, Hadha Sinqees, veteran and young creative professionals, and invited guests from all eleven sub-cities.

The festival features various art competitions, specialized exhibitions, and diverse cultural performances spanning visual, performing, and literary arts. The opening platform successfully brought together the city’s key creative institutions, theatre houses, the Addis Ababa University School of Fine Arts and Design, professional associations, and local schools.

In alignment with the national festival’s directives, the Ethiopian National Theatre presented a curated historical photograph and traditional costume exhibition. The showcase highlights the legacy and masterworks of prominent veteran artists who have historically elevated the sector, preserved national unity, and contributed to cultural education.

The National Theatre’s pavilion was officially visited by a senior delegation, including the Head of the Addis Ababa Culture and Tourism Bureau, Honorable Dr. Hirut Kassaw, alongside numerous public attendees. During the exhibition tour, educational briefings regarding the history of these monumental artistic works were delivered to visiting students and creative associations. The exhibition will remain open to the public at Meskel Square throughout the duration of the festival.
