The Ethiopian National Theatre’s 70th Anniversary Jubilee Festival, which opened on Hidar 3, 2018 E.C. with a grand inaugural ceremony, is being remembered. Following the opening, from Hidar 13 to Hidar 20, 2018 E.C., theatre performances and exhibitions have continued. On Saturday, “My Mother’s Silver” and “Life Story” were staged; on Sunday, “King Armah” and “12 Guests” were presented. Many audiences attended the plays and visited the exhibitions. It was announced that from Saturday to Saturday, theatre, music, and exhibition programs will continue to be offered free of charge to audiences in celebration of the 70th anniversary.

On this occasion, the General Director of the Ethiopian National Theatre, Candidate Dr. Bareke Tadese, conveyed a message of welcome to audiences. In his message, he recalled the great contributions of Ethiopian National Theatre laureate Tsegaie Gemedhin, Deputy Tesfaye Gesese, Honorary Dr. Tilahun Gesese, and other distinguished cultural figures. He emphasized that the theatre’s greatness and prestige came from the full dedication, knowledge, and artistry of these cultural icons who wrote, directed, performed, and composed for it.

He further noted that, as the theatre celebrates its 70th year, for the first time in its history, nearly 400 young talents under the age of 20 have been selected from 12 regions and 2 city administrations for training. After the training, 50 of these exceptional talents will join the National Theatre.

The Director stressed that the Ethiopian National Theatre must be renewed without losing its historical legacy. He called upon engineers, investors, and artists to collaborate in the overall renovation, so that their contributions will be remembered in history as a shining golden chapter.
